360 Degree Feedback Tools
Performance appraisals normally provide feedback from only one source. A multi-source (or 360 degree) assessment tool gathers and reports performance feedback from the full circle of perspectives – self, manager, peers, direct reports, and sometimes others, such as internal or external customers. It is, therefore, the most accurate and impactful way of assessing a person’s strengths and development needs. It is accurate because multiple sources are better than just one source (e.g., manager ratings), and because multiple perspectives provide a broader view of one’s capabilities. The process is impactful because people being rated have greater confidence in the data, and because they are more motivated to take action to develop.
